Abstract: SALVACION, YVETTE M. Parental Loss, Social and Emotional Adjustment of Students in Cavite State University, Indang Cavite. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Psychology. Cavite State University. April 2012. Adviser: Ms. Joy G. Novero. The study sought to determine the parental loss, social and emotional adjustment of students in Cavite State University Indang, Cavite. Specifically this study aimed to determine the following: 1) demographic characteristic of the respondents; 2) social adjustment level of the respondents; 3) emotional adjustment level of the respondents and, 4) relationship of parental loss, social and emotional adjustment of the respondents. The study was composed of 62 respondents and the data were gathered through survey questionnaires. The selection of the respondents was done through purposive and convenience sampling techniques. Mean, percentage and standard deviation were the formula used to determine the demographic profile and level of social and emotional adjustment. Spearman Rank Correlation was used to determine the relationship between parental loss, social and emotional adjustment of the respondents. Based on the results of the study, it was found out that most of the respondents were 19-22 years of age. Majority were females and Roman Catholic. In terms of deceased parents' gender, the majority of the respondents have a deceased father and 29 of them experienced the loss ranging from 1 month- 12 months ago at the time of the conduct of the study. In addition, it was found out that the social and emotional adjustments of the respondents prior to parental loss were at the average level. Their social and emotional adjustment did not change, it is because adjustments vary from individuals. Respondents were more matured, wise and resilient to accept the death of either or both parents. Lastly, social and emotional adjustments were not significantly related to parental loss because they can maintain close relationship and can control] their emotions.
