A thesis was conducted to determine the manpower needs of the selected firms in Cavite Export Processing Zone (CEPZ), Rosario, Cavite. It aimed to determine the following: (1) number of workers employed in selected firms in Cavite Export Processing Zone; (2) present job vacancies in the selected firms in CEPZ; (3) minimum requirements and/or qualifications of work applicants set by the selected firms: (4) specialization(s) or skills preferred by selected firms; (5) projected manpower needs of the selected firms in the next five years, and (6) the problems encountered by the selected firms in hiring workers.
The study was conducted in selected firms at the Cavite Export Processing Zone in Rosario, Cavite from January to February 2010. Data were collected through questionnaires given to the Human Resource Personnel of the selected firms.
The most common major units and/or department of the selected firms within CEPZ include Production Staff, Administration, Quality Control, Engineering, Sales, Maintenance, Materials/Facilities, Logistics, Purchasing and others. Garment firms have additional units for Cutting/Sewing, Packing/Setting, Sample, and Marker.
Among the different business types included in the study, the electronics sector employed the most number of employees.
Applicants for positions which require technical skills must at least be a high school graduate or college level and have one to two years of related experience. Meanwhile, positions such as administration staff, engineers, accounting staff, managers and other administrative/managerial positions required related bachelor’s degree at least three to five years of work experience, and specialization in the field.
The various specializations preferred by the selected firms include knowledge in manufacturing, production, industrial technology and electronics.
The most common problem encountered by the firms in CEPZ in hiring workers was the lack of workers who are specialized in the field being considered.
