Abstract: BESOYO, SHENALYN T. Cost and Return Analysis of Tiangge in Selected Areas of Cavite. B.S. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Business Management, major in Economics. Cavite State University Indang, Cavite. April 2011. Adviser: Ms. Maria Soledad M.Lising. A study was conducted to determine the socio economic characteristics of tiangge operators in selected areas of Cavite; to identify the cost and return of tiangge operators, determine the operational components of tiangge operators such as capital, transportation expense, frequency of purchase, mode of payment, source of product and pricing strategy; determine the relationship between operational components, characteristics of towns such as population and income classification and net income and to identify the problems encountered by tiangge operators. The places of the study were chosen where the tiangge operates during the time of the study. Primary data were obtained with the aid of an interview schedule. The list of respondents was obtained from the different municipalities. Descriptive method was used in the presentation and analyses of data. Statistical measures such as percentage, range, mean were used in presenting the characteristics of tiangge operators. Frequency and percentage were used to describe the operational components and problems encountered by tiangge operators. The Chi- square test with five percent level of significance was used to determine the relationship between operational components of tiangge operators and tiangge operators net income. Also, Correlation test used to determine the relationship between characteristics of towns and net income. Majority of tiangge operators (75%) were married while 12 percent of the respondents obtained college education. However, majority of the respondents (67%) reached high school level of education. Only six percent finished elementary. This indicates that the educational attainment of the respondents was relatively high. Among the products sold in tiangge the product that has a highest cost was apparel ranged from PhP 334,734 to 417,004 while the highest return obtained by household items ranged from 92.72 percent. Forty eight percent of the respondents purchased their products in Baclaran and applied market price basis as their pricing strategy. Oftentimes, the respondents bought their products weekly with the highest transportation expense at Php10,000. Most of the respondents (69%) preferred paying their purchases on cash basis. Chi-square results indicates that operational components such as capital, transportation expense, frequency of purchase, mode of payment, source of products and pricing strategy of the tiangge operators that sold accessories, footwear, household items, school supplies and toys were dependent with the net income while only transportation expense, mode of payment, source of products and pricing strategy were dependent with the net income of tiangge operators sold apparel. Moreover, correlation results indicate that population of the towns was low correlation with the net income of tiangge operators while income of the towns was highly correlation with the net income. The problems encountered by tiangge operators were stealing, lack of comfort rooms and enough supply of water, fake money, weather condition and return of products.
