Abstract: POLICARPIO, SYD ASHLEY G. and SANGLAY, CHRISTIAN G. IMPROVEMENT OF ANTI-LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM INSTRUCTIONAL TRAINER. Undergraduate Design Project. Bachelor’s in Industrial Technology, major in Automotive Technology. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. May 2017. Adviser: Mr. Dan Carlo S. J. Cornesio. An Anti-Lock Braking System, sometimes known as ABS, is a piece of safety gear that keeps a car's wheels from locking up under emergency, panic, or hard braking situations. Today, almost all four-wheel and two-wheel vehicles are equipped with an ABS, according to the most recent safety standards. There is a chance that the tires and the road surface could lose traction right away in the event of rapid braking. Tires may skid as a result of this. When this all occurs irrationally, the situation gets worse. The vehicle is still moving in this situation, and the rider or driver may lose control of the steering as a result of the lack of grip. An accident can result from this in the end. The frame of the mockup was still the same look, but the researchers add a battery bracket, chain tensioner and the bracket for the new front disc caliper. The whole mechanism was changed to a chain type unlike the belt drive mechanism from the previous researchers. This type of mechanism make the whole mockup more realistic because it will freewheel like a normal car. Each axle was cut in two to make it independent and every axle has their own sprocket welded. The electric motor has a stainless tube that has a two welded sprocket for each side of the axles. Each brake has 400 psi gauges that can handle the pressure of the brakes and can be monitored. The researchers also put an 8 pins socket that act as a manual scanner for eachABS sensors.This prototype is intended to be used as a teaching tool for automotive teachers while teaching about Anti-lock Braking System, as well as an instructional trainer for students to undertake various activities such as part tagging, observation, and more. The design project was evaluated by 5 automotive instructors with an overall grade of 4.72 with a corresponding degree of outstanding.
