Abstract: DIMAALA, OLIVER O. Response of Nursing Piglets to Different Housing Conditions. An undergraduate thesis. Bachelor of Science in Agriculture major in Animal Science, Cavite State University, April 2002. Adviser: Prof Eraflo C. Esguerra. The response of nursing piglets to different housing conditions was determined in a study conducted at the Experimental Project of the Department of Animal Science, Cavite State University from July to August 2001. The four treatments evaluated in this study were: Treatment I — Ordinary pen; Treatment II — Elevated farrowing stall with slatted floor; Treatment III — Danish type farrowing stall; and Treatment IV — Farrowing pen with guard rail. The treatments were replicated three times with two piglets per replication. The results showed highly significant difference among treatments in terms of piglets body weight from birth to termination of the study. Treatment IV exhibited the highest gain in weight, initial weight and final body weight although it is statistically similar to Treatments I and II. These three treatments are better than Treatment III with respect to the parameters evaluated in this study. Piglets raised in farrowing pen with guard rail (Treatment IV) had consumed more feeds than the piglets raised in the other treatments.
