The study aimed to determine the bullying status, perceived social support and emotional distress of secondary students of Dasmarinas City, Cavite S.Y 2012-2013. Specifically, the study aimed to: 1) determine the status of bullying secondary students in terms of being: bully, victim and bully-victim; 2) determine of level of emotional distress experienced by the participants when grouped according to being: bully, victim and bully-victim; determine the perceived social supports of the participants when grouped according to being: bully, victim and bully-victim; (4) determine the significant
difference on the level of experienced emotional distress and perceived social supports of the participants when grouped according to being: bully, victim and bully-victim; and (5) determine the significant relationship on the level of experienced emotional distress and perceived social support of the participants in terms of being: bully, victim and bully- victim.
Descriptive comparative- correlational design was used in the study. It was conducted and administered among four hundred secondary students from Dasmarinas North National High School. Revised Olweus Bully/Victim Questionnaire, Emotional Distress Scale and Children and Adolescent Social Support Scale were used to measure bullying status, emotional distress and perceived social support of the students. Mean, frequency, percent, standard deviation, Kruskal-Wallis and Chi-Square were used as
Statistical treatment in the study.
The results revealed that the majority of the participants were classified as bully- victims with two-hundred eighty-eight (288) frequencies, ninety- four (94) were victims and eighteen (18) were bullies. Participants who were bullies and victims have very low level of emotional distress while bully-victims resulted in low level. On the other hand, the researcher concluded that the bullies, victims and bully-victims had above average of
perceived social support.
Further, the researcher concluded that there is a significant difference in experienced emotional distress among bullies, victims and bully-victims. It indicated that
they differ on their experienced emotional distress. However, results also showed that there is no significant difference in the perceived social support of the three groups. In general, the researcher found out that there is a significant relationship between the emotional distress and perceived social support of the bullies, victims and bully- victims.
