Summary: "Until recently, much of the development of building materials has predominantly focused on producing cheaper, stronger and more durable construction materials. More recently attention has been given to the environmental issues in manufacturing, using, disposing and recycling of construction materials. The construction industry has been slow to respond to the Corporate Responsibility but increasing regulation in areas such as carbon emissions and waste are forcing companies to improve their processes and many clients are beginning to demand responsible approaches to design and construction. This book explores the concept of sustainability and dwell in detail to the growing popularity of sustainability and its implications for the practice of engineering, particularly for the built environment (civil engineering).
