Adviser Mr. Arnaldo M. Dilig A four-month business operation on the marketing of candles was conducted in Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite , Brgy. II, Indang, Cavite, Kayquit Indang, Cavite and Cavite Provicial Capitol, Brgy. Inocencio, Trece Martirez City from November 3, 2003 until March 8, 2004. Through this project, the students were given the chance to apply their knowledge and skill on business management by putting up their own business, gain profit from the business, describe the practices followed in making and marketing of candle products and serves as training ground for students to enhance their skills and developed their potentials. Three business management students decided to operate a small candle-making project. The project started with an initial capital of P30,000.00 which was equally shared by the partners. The amount was used to purchase the necessary tools, equipment, raw materials and other miscellaneous expenses. The highest volume of production was recorded during the month of November followed by the month of December incurring the total sales of P4,230.00 and P5,450.00, respectively. The entrepreneurial development project obtained a total sales of P16, 821.72. The project had obtained a total cash flow of P44, 890.00 coming from the initial capital of P30,000.00 and from the total cash sale of P14, 890.00. xiii The projects financial performance was measured and analyzed through the use of profitability ratios such as profit to gross profit ratios(GPR), profit to net sale ratio. INTRODUCTION Candle is the general term referring to a slender, cylindrical body of tallow, containing a wick composed of loosely twisted linen of cotton threads and used to furnish light (Webster's Dictionary, 1999). Necessity is the mother of invention and early candles sometimes took rather bizarre form to utilize available resources. The use and improvements of candles has paralleled man’s ascent from the Stone Age. There is no historical record of the first candles used by man, however, clay candleholders dating from the 4th century B.C. have been found in Egypt. Early Chinese and Japanese candles were made with wax derived from insects and seeds molded in paper tubes. Wax skimmed from boiling cinnamon was the basis of tapers for temple use in India. The first known candle in America dates to the 15 century A.D. Native Americans burned oily fishes (candlefish) wedged into forked

A four-month business operation on the marketing of candles was conducted in
Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite , Brgy. II, Indang, Cavite, Kayquit Indang, Cavite
and Cavite Provicial Capitol, Brgy. Inocencio, Trece Martirez City from November 3,
2003 until March 8, 2004. Through this project, the students were given the chance to
