Abstract: DEL ROSARIO, APRIL ROSE O. and ROBLEDO, SARAH ANN I. ‘Antibiotic Sensitivity Testing of Enterohemorrhagic Escherichia coli 0157:H7 ‘isolates using the Kirby-Bauer Method. Research Study. Cavite State University Indang, Cavite. April 2007. Adviser: Dr. Ma. Cynthia N. Rundina- dela Cruz. , This study was conducted to determine the bacterial sensitivity of the Enterohemorthagic Escherichia coli (EHEC) 0157:H7 isolates to particular antibiotics through the Kirby Bauer Method. In addition, this study aimed to determine the antibiotic sensitivity profile of EHEC isolates and identify the antibiotics that can be used against EHEC isolates. There were four isolates tested to ten antibiotics, all of which were duplicated. The zones of inhibition were measured and analyzed using the Zone Size Interpretative Chart for Antibiotic Sensitivity Testing. The results showed that EHEC isolate were susceptible to eight antibiotics tested, namely: Amoxicillin, Enrofloxacin, Trimethoprim - Sulfonamide, Ciprofloxacin, Streptomycin, Doxycycline and Colistin. On the other hand, such isolates were resistant to Lincomycin, Penicillin and Erythromycin. There is a need for further study to be done regarding the use of other antibiotics against E. coli 0157:H7 isolates.
