Abstract: DEL ROSARIO, JOY CONCEPCION D. Demographic Profile and Self-esteem of Adolescents from Selected Secondary Schools in Alfonso, Amadeo, Indang and Mendez, Cavite. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Psychology. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. April 2007 Adviser: Mary Roselle C. Gana. A study was conducted to provide information on the level of self-esteem of adolescents from Alfonso, Amadeo, Indang and Mendez, Cavite in relation to their demographic characteristics. Specifically, the study aimed to: present the demographic profile of the respondents; determine the level of self-esteem of the respondents from Alfonso, Amadeo, Indang and Mendez, Cavite; and ascertain the relationship between the level of self-esteem and the demographic profile of the selected respondents. Primary data were obtained through interviews with the respondents. Frequency counts, mean range, percentages and rank were used in presenting the demographic profile of the respondents and their level of self-esteem. Chi-square test was employed in establishing the relationship between the level of self-esteem and socio-demographic characteristics of respondents. Findings of the study revealed that the common age of senior high school student in selected secondary schools in upland Cavite is 16 years old. The portions of male and female fourth year high school students belonging to top section in selected secondary schools in Cavite are fairly the same. Majority of the senior high school students belonged to the low family income bracket and are living with two biological parents. Senior high school students from private secondary schools posted higher overall mean scores than the other two public secondary schools. Hence, it was deduced that respondents from private secondary schools had higher self-esteem than respondents from public secondary schools. Age and gender were not significantly related to the level of self-esteem of the respondents. On the other hand, parental structure, monthly family income, and type of school are significantly related to the level of self-esteem of the respondents. Overall, respondents from selected secondary schools in Cavite have an "average" self-esteem.
