Abstract: ATIENZA, LEXINOR DE LEON, "EXPOSURE ON TELENOVELA, BEHAVIOR AND INTERPERSONAL RELATIONSHIP OF THE THIRD YEAR STUDENTS OF GOV. F. LEVISTE MEMORIAL NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL SY 2006-2007". Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Psychology. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. April 2007, adviser: Ms. Mary Roselle C. Gana. This study on the relationship of the exposure on telenovela, behavior and interpersonal relationship was conducted to provide an explanation on how mass media as one aspects of modern social life affect the behavior of an individual specifically by watching a telenovela, which offers the audience dramas of recognition by locating social and political issues, violent scenes and familiar terms. This study attempted to: 1) determine the types of telenovela that the respondents watch; 2) find out the level of exposure of the respondents on telenovela in terms of: (a) number of hours, and (b) frequency of watching (day/s); 3) establish the level of social behavior of the respondents; 4) generate the relationship of exposure to different types of telenovela on the social behavior of the respondents; 5) assess the level of interpersonal relationship of the respondents; and 6) assess the relationship of exposure to different types of telenovela on the interpersonal relationship of the respondents. A total of three hundred (300) third year students of Gov. F. Leviste Memorial National High School in Lemery, Batangas were chosen as respondents. The research adopted the descriptive design, which was integrated by a normative survey method- using questionnaire as gathering tool. The researcher used the survey questionnaire to obtain the necessary information needed in the study. The questionnaire was divided into three (3) parts. The first part determines if the respondents are exposed to telenovela. The second part dealt with the effect of exposure to telenovela on the social behavior of the respondents. The third part finds out the relationship of exposure to telenovela on the interpersonal relationship of the respondents. Based on the findings, out of three hundred (300) respondents majority of them watched Korean telenovela with forty percent or one hundred twenty (120) respondents. The reason of watching was, the respondents relate on the flow of the story and on the character. The attitude adopted of the respondents was being romantic (30.03 percent), being honest (26.00 percent), and being happy (77 percent). The level of exposure to telenovela in terms of number of hours was low, meaning the respondents spent usual running time from 1 hr. to 11/2hrs in watching telenovela, and the level of exposure in terms of frequency of watching (day/s) was high, it means that the exposure was continuous. The respondents revealed that they were frequently sociable and has significant relationship but negatively correlated with the exposure to telenovela in terms of number of hours and frequency of watching (day/s). It means that respondents were become irresponsible and disobedient and the level of their ability in giving respect became low. The level of interpersonal relationship was high. It means that the respondent has a high relational context of interaction. Interpersonal relationship in terms of confidence, courtesy, trust and understanding all resulted with significant but negatively correlated with the relationship to exposure to telenovela in terms of number of hours, while only interpersonal relationship in terms of courtesy has significant relationship but negatively correlated with the exposure to telenovela in terms of frequency of watching, (day/s), it shows that continuous exposure to telenovela contribute to being aide of the respondents.
