Abstract: PEJI, MARK ANTHONY P., "Influence of Population Density, Under Net and Open Field Condition on the Growth and Yield Performance of Asparagus", Don Severino Agricultural College, Indang, Cavite, March 1995. Adviser: Prof. Josefino A. Viado The study "Influence of Population Density, Under Net and Open Field Condition on the Growth and Yield Performance of Asparagus" was conducted to determine the appropriate plant distancing and field condition that will produce best result. ABSTRACT - There were 144 two-month old seedlings used in the study. They were randomly distributed, 6 seedlings per plot. Split-plot design was used with field condition (Factor B) as the main plot factor and population density (Factor A), as subplot factor. There were four treatments namely; T0 space, T1 40 cm space, T2 70 cm. space. The experimental field was divided into two planting conditions. Field 1 is open while Field 2 is 60 cm. space, T3 under net. 50 cm. - This study revealed that population density greatly affect the performance of asparagus. Treatment 3 (70 cm. space between plants) is found the most effective treatment because it achieved 100% survival, produced tallest plants with large number of good and healthy spears. treatment also produced the greatest yield. Furthermore, it is also revealed that any field can be used in asparagus production.
