Abstract: MONFERO, MARIE ANN M. Business Activities of Home Occupants in Selected Subdivisions in Dasmarinas Cavite. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Economics, major in Business Economics. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. April 2007. Adviser: Ms. Ma. Soledad M. Lising The study was conducted specifically to describe the characteristics of business in selected subdivisions in Dasmarinas, Cavite; to describe the personal characteristics of home occupants who owned business in selected subdivisions in Dasmarinas, Cavite; the sources of capital of home occupants for their business; the levels of average monthly gross income derived by the home occupants from their business; the levels of average monthly net income generated by the home occupants from their business, and the problems encountered by the home occupants in relation to their business. A total of 194 respondents from 15 selected subdivisions in Dasmarinas Cavite were included in the study. Using purposive sampling, 15 subdivisions were selected as source of respondents. From the list obtained from DTI, there are 60 subdivisions in Dasmarinas Cavite where home owners/home occupants are engaged in business. From each selected subdivision, all home owners/home occupants with businesses were included in the study. Descriptive statistical tools were used in presenting and analyzing the data gathered. Frequency count, mean, range and percentage were used to present the characteristics of business in selected subdivisions in Dasmarinas, Cavite, particularly the personal characteristics of home occupants who own businesses in selected subdivisions, the sources of capital of home occupants for their business/es, the levels of average monthly gross and net income of the home occupants from their business. The study revealed that most of the respondents who were engaged in business belonged to the age bracket of 43, and majority of the respondents were female (64%). Most of the respondents attained college level. Married individual owned the business in selected subdivisions in Dasmarinas, Cavite. Furthermore, the form of ownership of all types of business was sole proprietorship. Most of the respondents (77%) owned the units where they reside. The average rental fee of those who rented the units where they reside was. The salary of the respondents' employees in computer business ranged from Php3, 000 to Php7, 000 with an average of Php4, 922. The salary of the respondents' employees in salon business ranged from Php4, 300 to Php6, 650 with an average of Php5, 893. The salary of the respondents' employees in eatery business ranged from Php4, 650 to Php6, 625 with an average of Php5, 417. The salary of the respondents' employees in water refilling business ranged from Php3, 100 to Php7, 750 with an average of Php5, 827. The salary of the respondents' employees in bakery business ranged from Php3, 200 to Php7, 100 with an average of Php4, 868. Forty one percent of the home occupants had no other sources of income aside from their business. Based on the results of the study, business in selected subdivisions in Dasmarinas Cavite is considered profitable especially the Water Refilling Business which obtained a monthly net income of Php12,940 .47, followed by eatery business with a monthly net income of Php8,632.86.beauty salon with a monthly net income of Php7,457.50 and computer business with a monthly net income of Php5,815.80 The main problem encountered by the home occupants who were engaged in food business were credit and collection, while those who are in the service business was the unruly customers.
