Abstract: DE JESUS, MARIE FE L. General Drug and Chemical Company, Incorporated, Mandaluyong City. Undergraduate Field Study. Bachelor of Science in Business Management, major in Marketing. Cavite State University, Indang Cavite, April 2007. Adviser: Dr. Nelia C. Cresino. A 480-hour field study was conducted in General Drug and Chemical Company, Incorporated (Gen Drug), located at 82 Mayflower Street, Mandaluyong City. Generally, the study was conducted to gain additional knowledge on how the business operates. Specifically, it aimed to: describe the organization, management and operation of the company; determine the products offered by the firm; and identify the problems encountered by the firm and recommend solutions to the problems identified. The information used in the study was obtained from the company manual, personal observations, actual participation in the activities and interviews with employees and officers. The company was formerly known as Mercury Laboratories, which was acquired by United Laboratories, Inc. on December 2, 1968. The operations started in a 1,000 square-meter area which was converted into a manufacturing plant at the old Menzi Warehouse. The initial products manufactured were solids, liquids and galenicals for Philusa Corporation, a subsidiary of Mercury Drug Corporation, Inc. and United Laboratories, Inc. Products Division. In January 1979, management started to upgrade the existing facilities and require new machines and equipment to cope with the increasing demands of products for Philusa Corporation and UL — Products Division. Activities performed by the trainee were entertaining the customers and suppliers, making and accepting telephone phone calls, receiving and checking the finished goods, and encoding and filing of important documents. These activities were considered the strength of the training.
