Adviser: Mrs. Emelita D. del Rosario
This research was conducted to determine the relationship between mother's absence and academic performance of selected high school students of DSAC and SGA, school year 1995-1996. The respondents in this study were composed of 110 selected high school students.
It was found out that the causes of mother-s absence are working abroad, deceased, and separated. The respondents had satisfactory performance during the second grading period regardless of the causes.
Sex and mental ability are the variables related to the academic performance. The female respondents had higher academic performance than the male respondents. They performed academically according to their level of mental ability.
Based on the findings in this study, the following are strongly recommended: 1) proper guidance of the students whose mothers are absent should be accorded by relatives or guardians concerned, 2) A study comparing the respondents who do live with their mother to the respondents whose mother live with them be conducted, and 3) further studies on the mother's absence with its relation to social and moral development of children be conducted involving bigger population.
