Abstract: BALUYOT, ROSE ANN B. Demographic Profile, Personal Problems and Coping Process of College Students in Cavite State University. Undergratuate Thesis. Bachelor of Sciences in Psychology. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. Adviser: Teresa Q. Amarille. This study attempted to determine the demographic profile, personal problems and coping process among selected college students in Cavite State University. Specifically, this study sought to 1.) determine the demographic profile of the respondents in terms of: age, genders, monthly family incomes, number of siblings, occupation of the father, occupation of the mother and birth order; 2.) determine what are the personal problems encountered by the respondent in terms of: inability to make decision, personal discomfort, feeling of unhappiness, home conflict, peer conflict and general frustration; 3.) determine what are the coping process is commonly practiced by the respondents in terms of confrontive coping, distancing, self-controlling, seeking social support, accepting responsibility, escape-avoidance, planful problem- solving and positive re-appraisal; 4.) determine if there is a significant relationship between the demographic profile, personal problems and coping process of the respondents, and 5.) Determine the significant relationship between personal problems and coping process among freshmen students. This study used descriptive design, which is integrated by a normative survey method using questionnaire as gathering tools to fm out there is no significant relationship between demographic profile, personal problems and coping process. Out of the total enrolled college student in Cavite State University, 374 selected college students turned out as the respondents in the study. The instrument used in the data gathering procedure, were personal problems questionnaire and modified ways of coping questionnaire by Lazarus and Folkman. Majority of the respondents belong to 17 years old age bracket, and most of them are female. Two took the most part of the number of siblings. As for the birth order, most of the respondents are middle child. Majority of the monthly family income of the respondents ranges from 10,001 to 15,000. The respondents rarely experience inability to make decisions, personal discomfort, and feeling of unhappiness, home conflict and peer conflict. As a whole personal discomfort is the personal problem that they are commonly experienced. When it comes to coping process, confrontive coping, distancing, self-controlling, seeking social support, accepting responsibility, escape-avoidance, planful problem solving, and positive reappraisal was often practiced by the respondents. As a whole, seeking social support was the coping process that was commonly practiced by the respondents. There is no significant relationship between personal problem and coping process.
