Abstract: OMIPON, RODELYN R. "Profile, Problem Awareness Level and Coping Mechanism of the Guidance Counselors in Selected Private Secondary Schools in Cavite" Bachelor of Science in Psychology. Cavite State University. April 2008 The study aimed to determine the influence of the respondent's demographic profile to the problem awareness level and coping mechanism and determine its relationship. Specifically, it aimed to (1.) determine the demographic profile of the respondents in terms of (1.1) Age, (1.2) Gender, (1.3) Civil Status, (1.4) Educational Attainment, (1.5) Length of Service. (2.) determine the level of awareness of the respondents with regard to the problems encountered in the following concerns (2.1) Students, (2.2) Peers (co-counselors), (2.3) Parents, (2.4) Teachers, (25) Administrators. (3.) determine the coping mechanism preferred by the respondents. (4.) determine if the demographic profile significantly influence the coping mechanism and problem awareness level of the respondents and (5.) determine the significant relationship between coping mechanism and problem awareness level of respondents. Descriptive-Correlational method was used in this study. Survey form of questionnaire was used to supplement the gathered data. The respondents of the study yielded a total of 70 guidance counselors from selected private secondary schools in Cavite. Most of the respondents were 29 years old and below and females were dominated by male respondents. Most of them were married, attained Masteral Units and had five (5) years and below length of service. Majority of the respondents has low level of awareness on problems in the areas of students, peers (co-counselors), teachers, and administrators but has a high level of awareness on parents' problems. Majority of the respondents preferred to use compromise, meaning most of them get all of what they really want, but they each make concessions in order to reach an agreement that is acceptable to both. The influence of the demographic profile to the coping mechanism and problem awareness level of the respondents were not significant, in terms of age, gender, civil status, educational attainment and length of service. On the other hand, educational attainment has significant influence only in problem awareness level of the respondents. The direct coping, compromise and withdrawal coping mechanism have no significant relationship to the coping mechanism and problem awareness level of the respondents. On the other hand, confronting coping mechanism has significant relationship on coping mechanism and problem awareness level of the respondents.
