Abstract: DEL MUNDO, MINNELA RISA M. , Applied Research IV (Agli- Science Curriculum) Don Severino Agricultural College, Indang, Cavite, March 1996. 'EFFECTS OF DIFFERENT GROWING MEDIA ON THE GROWTH PERFORMANCE OF HELICONIA (Vriesea heliconoides) Adviser: Prof. Cecilia A. Capalad This study entitled EFFECTS OF DIFFERENT SOIL MEDIA ON GROWTH PERFORMANCE OF HELICONIA (Vriesea heliconoides)" was conducted at Dr. Mario Marasigan's place at Don Severino Agricultural College Faculty Village, Indang, Cavite from May 1, 1995, to November 1, 1995 with the following objectives : (1) to determine the effects of different growing media on the growth performance of heliconia, (2) to determine which growing medium will produce the best growth performance of heliconia, (3) to determine the ideal medium which will give the highest number of flowers. An area of 42.25 square meters was used in this study. The Latin Square Design was used with four treatments replicated four times. The treatments were: TO - control (pure garden soil) Tl - (50% garden soil and 50% cow manure) T 2 (60% garden soil and goat manure; T3 (50% garden soil and 50% chicken manure). The results revealed that the different growing media had no significant effect on the growth performance of heliconia.
