Abstract: VICEDO, FLORIELYN SIDAMON. Demographic Profile, Self -Concept and Social Behavior of Selected Members and Non-members of Home for the Aged in Cavite. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Psychology. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. April 2008. Adviser: Mr. Renato T. Agdalpen. The study was conducted to find out the relationship of the demographic profile, self -concept and social behavior of selected members and non-members of home for the aged in Cavite. This evaluated the demographic profile of selected members and non-members of home for the aged in Cavite in terms of age, gender, birth order, educational attainment and marital status; determine the self -concept of the two groups of respondents; determine the social behavior of the two groups of respondents; identify if the demographic profile significantly influence the self -concept and social behavior on the two group of respondents; identify if there is a significant difference on the self-concept and social behavior of the two of group respondents. Descriptive-Correlation Method of Research was used to determine the relationship and difference of the self -concept and social behavior of the selected members and non-members of home for the aged in Cavite. The study was conducted from the month of October 2007- December 2007 at San Jose Bahay Kalinga Carasuchi Indang, Elderly Mutual Benefit Fund Barangay San Simon Area C Dasmarinas, Bahay Pangarap Senior Citizen's Association Dasmarinas Alliance of Carmona Elderly and Elderly Association of Molino 3 Bacoor Cavite which focused mainly on the self-concept and social behavior of the two groups of respondents. The distributions of the respondents were chosen using the Slovin's formula and Snow ball sampling technique. For the selection of respondents of selected members and Non-members of Home for the Aged in Cavite used the Purposive Sampling technique. This design is based on choosing elements of the population as samples according to the purpose of the study. The criteria for selecting respondents must be a resident of the institution and for the non-members those who are 60-80 years of age. The Self-Concept Rating Scale and Social Behavior Questionnaire were used as a measuring tool. Frequency count, mean, percentage, Mann Whitney Test/Z Test and Kruskal Wallis/Chi square Test were used in analyzing the data. The results for the demographic profile indicated that majority of the respondents had age ranging from 60 to 65 years old, female, middle born and married. The highest education of the respondents for members was high school level while the non-members was elementary level. In general, demographic profile of the respondents has no significant influences on their self -concept and social behavior. However, it was revealed that birth order has significantly influence with the self -concept in terms of personal worth and self -value. Also it was found out that birth order has significantly influence with the social behavior in terms of community relation. Results revealed that there is no significant difference between self -concept and social behavior of the two groups of respondents.
