NUESTRO, JOSEPHINE F. and SANTOS, MICHAEL JOVAN C. Geographic Accessibility Analysis of Public Markets in Lowland Cavite. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. April 2008. Adviser: Renato B. Cubilla.
The study was conducted from of November 2007 to March 2008. The study area was located at Lowland Cavite particularly in the Municipality of Bacoor, Carmona, Dasmarthas, General Mariano Alvares, General Trias, Imus, Kawit, Noveleta, Rosario and Tanza including the cities of Cavite and Trece Martires. The study was undertaken to evaluate the existing accessibility of public markets located in Lowland Cavite. The study also determined factors affecting the access of people to public markets, developed an isochrone map needed to identify the current accessibility status of the different public market in Lowland Cavite. The condition and the extent of market facilities such as market stalls, parking areas, etc. was assessed. Moreover, projects that can improve the status of accessibility in public market to the current transportation system were recommended. Data were gathering and these include consumer survey, key informant and time travel survey among others. These data were used in the situational analysis, accessibility analysis and the optimization phase. After the preparation of data, isochrome map was developed using CorelDraw. Transportation modes, consumers and the market facilities are the factors affecting the accessibility. Transportation networks were also considered by taking the distance of the public market to each barangay of the city/ municipality.
The study concluded that the existing public markets in Lowland Cavite are mostly accessible to the populace of the city/ municipality, even though some of the barangays were far from the market. The study reveals that presence of transportation facilities make travelling easy. It was found out that people tend to buy goods from the nearest public market. This is the main reason of the consumers interviewed by the researchers.
