Applied Research III, Science High School, College of Education, Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite, April 2009. Adviser: Prof. Eleanor Ersando The study entitled "PRODUCTION OF MEDICATED OINMENT FROM GUMAMELA EXTRACT, EUCALYPTUS OIL AND BEESWAX," aimed to produce ointment using gumamela extract as its main component. This was conducted in order to determine the sensory properties of the ointments produced in terms of aroma, texture, color, oiliness, water content and wash ability; to determine the general acceptability of the produced ointment; to determine the effectiveness of the produced ointment as a muscle and skin relaxant and; to determine the best treatment combination that would give the best result. The study prepared three treatments replicated four times. Treatment 1 contained 42 ml of gumamela extract, 39 ml of eucalyptus oil, and 19 ml of beeswax. Treatment 2 contains 40 ml of gumamela extract, 40 ml of eucalyptus oil, and 20 ml of beeswax. And Treatment 3 contains 38 ml of gumamela extract, 42 ml of eucalyptus oil, and 20 ml of beeswax. In the conduct of the study, the materials were first prepared followed by the extraction of gumamela leaves using solvent-extraction method. After getting the extract, the beeswax was melted and all the materials were measured according to the percentage of each in every treatment. Then, these were mixed and placed in the plastic container for the gathering of data. Using the questionnaires, the produced medicated ointments were evaluated by thirty panelists. It showed that the first treatment is favorable in terms of oiliness, water content and wash ability. In the general acceptability, the second treatment appeared to be the best among the three. Also, to determine the effectiveness of the produced ointment the second treatment was evaluated by ten respondents experiencing muscle pain. The results showed that the produced ointment has a soothing effect on the muscle and skin of humans.
