Abstract: MAGADAN, SHELLA ROSE DIN. Solid Waste Management Practices in limns, Cavite. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Business Management —Major in Economics. Cavite State University. Innis, Cavite. March 2009. Thesis Adviser: Prof Gilchor P. Cubillo. This study was conducted primarily to determine the solid waste management practices in lams, Cavite. Specifically, it aims to (1) identify the volume of garbage produced and collected daily by the local government for disposal (2) determine the solid waste management practices in 'nuts, Cavite (3) know the methods employed by the local government unit in disposal of waste materials (4) determine the cost of the household and local government garbage collection and (5) identify the problems encountered by the local government in the implementation of solid waste management. Descriptive statistics such as percentage frequency method was used to describe solid waste management practices in Imus, Cavite. The study revealed that the residential sector is the leading source of waste composed of 45%. 62% of this is characterized as biodegradable, 30% are non-biodegradable and 8% are disposable wastes. The municipality generates an estimated 93 cubic meters volume of wastes daily. The Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office had identified Segregation, Composting and Recycling as the solid waste management practices that were employed by the locality. The locality incurred whole waste disposal system costs around 30 million a year. The most common problem that the local government unit encounters is the delay in collection of garbage. Another problem is that wastes are not properly segregated according to their specifications.
