Abstract: BONGALA, RAQUEL M., Communal Mastery and Way of Thinking of Selected Widows/Widowers of Residents of Indang, Cavite. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Psychology, Cavite State University Indang, Cavite. This study aimed to determine the relationship between the communal mastery and way of thinking of selected widows/widowers of residents of Indang, Cavite. Specifically this study sought to 1.) describe the demographic profile of selected widows of residents of Indang, Cavite in terms of age, gender, family size, age at marriage, cause of husband's/wife's death, age at widowhood; 2.) to determine the communal mastery of the respondents in terms of attachment level and social support; 3.) determine the way of thinking of the respondents when grouped into pessimist and optimist; 4.) identify if there is a significant relationship between communal-mastery and way of thinking of selected widows/ widowers of residents of Indang, Cavite. Descriptive correlational was used in the study. Survey questionnaires were used to gather the necessary information. Purposive sampling was utilized in all barangays of Indang, Cavite. The questions used by the researcher were lifted from the thesis and websites. The participants of the study were three hundred forty six (346) widows/ widowers in Indang, Cavite. Majority of the respondents were 50 to 59 years old. There were more female respondents than males. Majority of the respondents had family size of 4 to 6. Most of the respondents were married at the age of 19 to 21. Majority of the cause of death of their husband/wife was illness, and majority of their age at widowhood was 41 to 60. The result of the study found out that most of the respondents were low in their communal mastery, thus they are optimist. The test statistics revealed that the level of significance was less than 0.05. It appears therefore that there is a significant relationship between communal mastery and way of thinking of selected widows/ widowers of residents of Indang, Cavite.
