Abstract: PARAISO, AVELINO, ANONUEVO Jr. Status and Prospects of Multi purpose Cooperative in Upland Cavite. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Development Management major in Training Program Management, Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. April 2009. Adviser. Dr. Luzviminda A. Rodrin. This study was conducted in the nine different towns in upland Cavite where there are existing Multi-purpose Cooperatives. The study aimed to determine the services/ products offered by Multi-purpose Cooperatives in upland Cavite; determine the status of the Multi-purpose Cooperatives in terms of the Developmental Stage; determine the factors associated with the status of Multi-purpose Cooperatives; determine the prospects of the Multi-purpose Cooperatives; and identify the problems encountered by the Multi-purpose Cooperatives in upland Cavite. A total of 35 Multi-purpose Cooperatives served as sources of data. The different services offered by Multi-purpose Cooperatives in upland Cavite were: credit, consumer, service, production and marketing operations. other services offered were non-financial, social and training services. Majority of the Multi-purpose Cooperatives in upland Cavite were on the growth and development stage and a few were on coop status quo and decline. Some cooperatives need to conduct training and seminar in order to gain more knowledge and information on how to improve their cooperative. Other cooperative need to undertake continuous policies and meeting to update the status of their cooperative while some have to increase their membership, capital and services to be offered to their members. There are also cooperatives that should hold activities for continuous education especially the officers. Moreover, some cooperatives need to attend officers meeting regularly and seek advice from Cavite Cooperative Development Center and Cooperative Development Authority (CDA). It was found out that human conflict, lack of reserve fund, internal control, risk management and lack of changes were the common problems of the Multi-purpose Cooperative in upland Cavite. Meanwhile, in terms of operation, delinquent members and insufficient capital were the most common problems cited. There were several factors associated with the status of cooperatives in the different development stages. In induction and orientation, series of meeting, dialogues and session between officer and members should be undertaken. In formal cooperative formation there should be documentation, registration of cooperative at Cooperative Development Authority and obtained their Certificate of Registration. In cooperative formation, capital build-up and membership recruitment and growth were important. Continuous membership education and training, policies and system in place, leadership/management development and staff training greatly contributed to the growth and development of cooperatives. Business services diversification and development revision, and update of policies and guidelines are associated for cooperative transition and transformation.
