Abstract: APALLA, PAMELA VICEDO, "An Item Analysis of Statistics 1 Midterm Examination Administered to Statistics 1 Students of Cavite State University, Second Semester, SY 2008-2009". A special problem. Bachelor of Science in Applied Mathematics (with specialization in Statistics), Cavite State University, Indang Cavite. Adviser: Jocelyn L. Reyes. This study was conducted from January to March 2009 at the Department of Physical Science, College of Arts and Sciences, Cavite State University. This study subjected to an item analysis a 30-multiple-choice-item midterm examination in Statistics 1 administered to 303 students. A sample size computed by Slovin's formula yield 172 respondents. Only 92 out of 172, based on item analysis procedure, were considered as members of the high and low groups. This study aimed to determine level of difficulty, the level of discrimination and the effectiveness of the distractors of each item in departmentalized midterm examination in Statistics 1. Likewise, the reliability of departmentalized midterm examination was also measured. The source of data was the answer sheets to the midterm examination. Using the Kuder-Richardson Formula 20, the computed reliability coefficient was 0.44 which implied high reliability; hence, the items were significantly related to each item. Discrimination index, the numerical description of the extent to which success on an item corresponds to success on the whole test, was computed from equal-sized high and low scoring groups. Seventeen items were satisfactorily prepared since they had effective distractors. Majority of the test items were reasonably good in discrimination and the exam had average difficulty
