Abstract: BALINADO, JUSTINE ROY 0. and RAMOS, SHYR DARREN F., Evaluating the Effects of 5S on the Selected Manufacturing Companies in Cavite. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. March 2013. Adviser: Engr. Willie C. Buclatin. The study was conducted to evaluate the effects of 55 on the selected manufacturing companies in Cavite. The factors considered in identifying the significant relationship of 55 on the selected companies were the quality of work performance, productivity of the company, and safety in the workplace. The companies included were the Purefoods-Hormel Company, Inc., Maxim Philippines Operating Corporation, American Power Conversion Corporation (APC), United Graphic Expression Corporation (UGEC), YST-Yoshita Corporation, and Harada Automotive Antenna Philippines, Inc. The subjects were the selected employees from these companies who were responsible for implementing the 55 program and had concrete knowledge and experience in practicing this 5S program. Through the use of survey questionnaires, data were gathered from the target companies. Somer's D technique was used for the correlation analysis between 5S and the factors that were considered in the study. The result of correlation analysis showed how significant 5S is on the companies in terms of quality of work performance, productivity of the company, and safety on the workplace. Through 5S application, it makes a company more competitive and productive; furthermore it does provide a solid foundation for achieving operational excellence and in fact, some world-class companies claim that there can be no improvement without 5S. Recommendations in order to improve 5S implementation in companies can be done by implanting this technique in an organized manner which will result to an improved standard cleanliness, efficiency, and success.
