Abstract: CASABA, CHRISTOPHER E. Manila Bay Office: Clean Up Programs and Strategies for the Manila Bay Region. Narrative Report. Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science, Cavite State University, Indang Cavite. November 2012. On-the Job Training Coordinator: Mrs. Diana B. Hermosa. The training was conducted for 280 hours from January 02, 2012, to February 20, 2012 at DENR-EMB Manila Bay Office at DENR Compound, Visayas Avenue, Diliman, Quezon City, Manila. The objectives of the training were to: (1) Enable the student trainees to practice the skills and knowledge they have learned from the University on the principles and practices of Environmental Science; (2) Acquire new knowledge and skills while working at the DENR-EMB Manila Bay Office located at Diliman, Quezon City, Metro Manila; (3) Experience and understand the nature of work, office and field operations, and other activities of Manila Bay Office in carrying out its mandate; and (4) Gain insights from the on-the-job training experiences. The student trainee was assigned at EMB-Manila Bay Office (EMB-MBO) under the supervision of the Program Coordinator, Engr. Nicanor E. Mendoza. EMB-MBO is a project-based office under the Environmental Management Bureau. Here, the student trainee was given the tasks to prepare a draft policy proposal for the illegal dumping of contaminated dredged materials, industrial sludge, and hazardous wastes for the Manila Bay region, and prepare the strategies for River-estero Clean-Up . The student trainee also did computer related tasks such as encoding and power point presentations and secretarial works on GIS Mapping and Water Quality Monitoring Database Workshop, and Work and Financial Plan meeting during the training period. Experiencing actual works in EMB-MBO enabled the student trainee to acquire new knowledge and technical skills in strategic management for the Manila Bay region. Also, his social, administrative and computer skills were developed. As insights, the student trainee learned the importance of cleaning and rehabilitating the Manila Bay area, for its economic, historic and social values to the Filipino people. He learned that the approach in rehabilitating the Manila Bay region must be holistic and must consider every element that it will affect along the process. It takes patience and dedication to realize the vision of a clean and wholesome Manila bay ecosystem.
