This study was conducted at the Microbiological Research Laboratory from January to February 2001. Generally, it aimed to determine the growth performance of Mucor alternaria and Aspergillus niger on substituted Potato Dextrose Agar.
The potato component of Potato Dextrose Agar (PDA) was substituted with infusion from aerial potato while the dextrose was substituted with either brown sugar, refined sugar, coconut water or molasses.
Results revealed that Mucor alternaria grew well in all substituted PDA-media but the best result was observed on Aerial Potato Molasses Agar (APMA). Aspergillus niger had its best growth on Aerial Potato Brown Sugar Agar (APBSA).
