Magsino In order to know the potential and suitability of various types of recyclable polyethylene materials in the production of floorwax, this study entitled Utilization of Recyclable Polyethylene in the Production of Floorwax was conducted with the following objectives: (a) compare the quality of the homemade floorwax from recyclable materials made from low-density and high-density polyethylene; (b) compare the quality of the homemade floorwax from recyclable polyethylene to the commercially-made floorwax, and; (c) develop a standard procedure of making homemade floorwax from recycled polyethylene. This study used four treatments, three of which are from recyclable polyethylene- made materials: T1 — packaging film/bags; T2 — household chemical containers, and T3 — household wares and a standard floorwax (T4), which served as the basis of comparison. To develop a standard procedure in floorwax making from recyclable polyethylene-made items, several replications were conducted. In order to determine the effectiveness and quality of the treatments, the wood-tile floorings applied with the different floorwax produced were evaluated by 50 panelists based on its shine and lustre. The physical properties of the wax were also evaluated based on their hardness, color, smell/scent, and general acceptability. The statistical tools that were used for analyzing the data gathered were Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and Scheffe Method. Analysis of the mean scores revealed that the wax produced from recyclable polyethylene materials is better than the commercially available floorwax based on their physical properties. Treatment 2 (polyethylene chemical containers) showed the best effect on the wood-tile flooring in terms of luster or shine. However, based on general acceptability, Analysis of Variance revealed non-significant differences among the treatments. It was concluded that both high-density and low-density polyethylenes are good sources of resin in floorwax-making. Floorwax made from recyclable polyethylene is as acceptable as the commercially available floorwax.
