MEJOS, RAFAEL LUIS L. AND RAMON T. OLEA Database Dump File Compression and Encryption Software For the Central Database of Cavite State University. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Computer Science. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. April 2014. Adviser: Mrs. Vanessa G. Coronado.
The study was conducted to develop a compression and encryption software for the central database of Cavite State University. The study aimed to reduce the size and secure the database dump file of Cavite State University. Specifically, it aims to: 1) identify the problems in developing a system for reduction of file size in the database dump file of Cavite State University through research; 2) analyze the problems and specify the requirements needed to develop the software by using Fishbone Diagram; 3) design and create a software that can compress and encrypt dump file using Software development methodology; 4) develop a software using C# Programming Language that can compress, and encrypt Database dump file through Lempel — Ziv — Welch (LZW) and Triple Data Encryption Standard (DES); and 5) evaluate the software's reliability and accuracy through unit testing, integration testing and acceptance testing.
Twenty faculty members of Department of Information Technology (DIT) who
are potential users of the software were regarded in the study as the participants.
Software Development Methodology was used in completing the study. The methodology is consisted of analysis/planning, breakdown priority project, design module, code-test/debug, integration of sub procedure and test/implementation phase. Statistical evaluation tool used for the study was conducted.
The SQL Encryption and Compression Software (SECS) was developed to reduce and secure SQL dump file. For the development of the system, computer unit or a laptop with following specifications: 1GB of RAM, at least 500 GB hard disk space, Dual Core processor and 2.00 GHz physical memory was used. The software specification includes Microsoft Windows XP/7 as an Operating System.
The findings of the study revealed positive feedback from the Participants who are potential users of the software, in terms of user-friendliness, user-interaction, and technical aspects, and materials of software.
