Abstract: MARTINEZ, ANGELIQUECA EUNICE S. "Inventory Management of Batangas Sugar Central Inc. in Balayan, Batangas". Undergraduate Case Study. Bachelor of Science in Business Management, major in Financial Management. Cavite State University.Indang, Cavite. April 2014. Adviser: Prof. Estrellita D. Corpuz. The case study was conducted to provide the student an opportunity to apply the gained theories, skills and knowledge in business management particularly in inventory management. Specifically, this study aimed to (1) describe the production process of sugar mill of the firm, (2) describe the policies, procedures, and techniques used by the company in managing their inventories, (3) analyze the effectiveness of the inventory management system of the company, (4) compare the inventory management of the company with other companies in the industry, (5) identify the problems encountered related to inventory management, and (6) recommend possible solutions to solve problems identified. Relevant data were obtained from the company's records which were provided by the managers and other staff Other data were gathered from employees through personal interviews and observation of actual operations. Library, Internet and other researches were also used as secondary sources of information. The researcher used financial ratios such as inventory turnover and inventory period to be able to determine the effectiveness of inventory management system used by the company. It was found outthat no other control measures such as establishment of minimum level, maximum level, order level, and economic order quantity, were used by the sugar mill studied. Physical verification of stock was not regularly made, and only the classification and codification techniques were used to control inventories. However, stock cards and store ledgers were used by the mills. Batangas Sugar Central Inc. used traditional inventory management practices, old laboratory, and equipment which slow down production process. The firm should adopt an updated inventory management system to control inventory more efficiently and effectively. The firm also needs to undergo an equipment and system upgrade to achieve higher productivity
