Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Psychology. Cavite State University, Indang Cavite. April 2013. Thesis Adviser: Ms. Jasmin N. Avellanosa. The study was conducted in order to determine the emotional intelligence and its relation to the academic performance and work performance of the student assistants and job experience students of Cavite State University. Specifically aimed to: (1) determine the emotional Intelligence of the student assistants and job experience students in terms of (a) emotional awareness; (b) managing one's emotions; (c) self-motivation; (d) empathy and, (e) coaching other emotions; (2) determine the academic performance of the student assistants and job experience students; (3) determine the work performance of the student assistants and job experience students in terms of: (a) knowledge of job; (b) compatibility and cooperation; (c) punctuality and attendance; (d) relationship with others and, (e) relationship with co-workers and supervisor. The study used descriptive comparative correlational type of research. It focused on the comparison of academic performance and work performance, and on the relationship of emotional intelligence to academic performance and work performance of student assistants and Nob experience students. Emotional Intelligence Self- Evaluation and Work Performance Evaluation was the instrument used by the researcher. To determine the academic performance, work performance and the emotional intelligence of participants, mean and the standard deviation were used. Mann Whitney U- test was used in this research to determine the difference between the academic performance and work performance of participants and Spearman Rank for the relationship of emotional intelligence to academic performance and work performance of the participants. The participants had very good performance in their academic, which mean that the respondents maintain their high general point average. The student assistants and job experience students had superior level in work performance. The student assistants and job experience students performed their work systematically and always come to and leave the office on time. The participants is emotionally intelligent. They gave importance to their emotions and used them to guide their thinking and actions. They were able to control and direct their emotions winch can cause pessimism and destructive behaviors.
