The study entitled online management information system for the New Era National High School (NENHS) was conducted from June 2013 to February 2014 at Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. It generally aimed to develop an online management information system for NENHS in order to store important school records of the students for faster retrieval and generation of reports. Specifically, it aimed to identify the problems encountered of the existing system through preliminary investigation and review, analyze and present the problems by reviewing of document and creating fishbone diagram, design an appropriate information system capable of addressing the identified problems to improve the existing system using Unified Modeling Language (UML) tools, develop an online management information system for NENHS, and evaluate the system through unit, module, and acceptance testing.
Software development methodology was used as the guide in developing the system. It consists of seven phases namely; analyze/planning, breakdown priority project, design module, code test/debug, integration of sub procedure and testing, integration with existing system, and test/implementation. Varied tools were used in developing the software such as Windows 7 Ultimate for the operating system, My Structured Query Language (MySQL 5.5.27) for the database, Apache for the web server, HTML (Hypertext Markup Language), JavaScript and PHP (Hypertext Processor) as the scripting language, Notepad++ as an editor tool, Wordpress for the design, and Microsoft Word 2007 for documentation.
Five modules were created namely; user, content, student registration, upload, and report generation module. The software was evaluated using [SO 9126 evaluation form in terms of its functionality, reliability, usability, maintainability, and portability. Random sampling was used to identify the respondents. Based on the results, the software was evaluated as excellent.
The system was able to address the identified problems. For further improvement of the system the proponents recommended to include the computation of grades of quizzes, exams, and attendance in every subject for each student, the information of the adviser can be added into the system and allow them to view the list of their advisee, and include the scheduling of teachers.
