Abstract: GARCIA, RONALYN I. Land Use for Agricultural and Non-agricultural Sector in Cavite. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Economics major in Business Economics. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. April 2014. Adviser: Ms. Ma. Soledad M. Lising. . This study aimed to analyze the land use for agricultural and non-agricultural sector in Cavite. Specifically, it aimed to: 1. determine the nature of existing land use in Cavite; 2. determine the trend of agricultural and non-agricultural lands in Cavite from 1997 to 2012; and 3. determine the contribution of the agricultural and non-agricultural sectors to the income and employment in Cavite from 1997 to 2012. The study was conducted in Cavite from December 2013 to February 2014. A total of 16 data observations starting from 1997 to 2012 were used in the study. Descriptive method of analysis was employed and made use of graphs, maps, and tables to show the existing land use, trend of agricultural and non-agricultural lands as well as its income and employment contribution to the province. Percentages and averages were used to present the data. Of the total land area of 143,469.27 hectares of the Province of Cavite, majority (52.78%) was used for non-agricultural purposes. Crop production was the leading use of agricultural land representing 37 percent and about 9.76 percent remained idle/vacant/grasslands. In non-agricultural land, residential area (18.09%) was the second leading use of land in Cavite. Land use trend in Cavite was decreasing agricultural use to increasing industrial use over the years. This indicated that the economy of the province was shifting to an industrial economy. Decrease in non-agricultural land was highest in the year 2002 and 2012. This was attributed to the increase in industrial estates, industrial establishments, and housing subdivisions in Cavite. Majority of the lands were converted to residential purposes from 1997-2012. The study also found out that agricultural lands did not provide much income to the province contributing only 2.41 percent while non-agricultural lands contributed 24.21 percent. In relation to employment, non-agricultural lands played a significant part of Cavite’s total employment as industrialization absorbed a large portion of the province workforce.
