The study was conducted in Cavite State University to describe the socio-economic characteristics of CEMDS students, measure the family income level of the students, determine the socio-economic status and identify the problems of CEMDS students regarding their socio-economic status. Three hundred forty CEMDS students were used as the participants in the study.

Data were gathered using questionnaires. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistical tools such as frequency count, mean, range, percentage and rank. :

The average age of the respondents was 18 years. Most of the respondents (74%) were female and all of them are single. The average household size of the participants - was six members and has two employed members in a family.

The participant's socio-economic status was categorized in terms of parents’ educational attainment, occupation and other indicators. Thirty-eight percent of the
parents are high school graduates and 32 percent are college graduates. Only one percent of the participants’ parents are elementary graduate.

Thirty-five percent of the CEMDS students’ parents have no work. Twelve percent of the parents’ occupation is plant or machine operator and 10 percent of the parents’ occupation belong to service or sales worker and corporate manager or senior official. Two percent of participants’ parents work as skilled agricultural or fishery worker and clerk. The average monthly income obtained by the CEMDS family was P19,713.74. Ninety-one percent have an average monthly family income and seven percent have low family income. Only two percent have high family income.

Majority of the participants (80%) have a concrete type of house which consider as average level of socio-economic status and seven percent of the participants have wood and light materials type of house that consider in low level.

Majority of the participants (99%) can afford television set that consider as low level and 28 percent of the CEMDS students can have air-condition, microwave and computer/ laptop or net book as their convenience that belong to high level of socio- economic status.

Out of 100 participants, 63 percent of the participants owned vehicles. Of 63
percent, 32 percent has motorcycle and 17 percent has a car.

Based on the parents’ educational attainment, occupation and to those indicators which ts the income, type of house, home appliances and vehicles owned, the CEMDS students belonged to average socio-economic status.
