Abstract: ATANGAN, ALYZA ME C. Perceived Contribution of On-the-Job Training Program in Developing Industry Relevant Competencies of Business Management Students. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Business Managesuent major in Operations Management. Cavite State University, Indang. Cavite. October 2013. Adviser: Dr. Florindo C. Ilagan. The study was carried out to determine the perceived contribution of OJT program in developing industry-relevant competencies of Business Management students of the Cavite State University. Descriptive research design was utilized in this study. The participants of the study consisted of 118 fourth year BM students who completed Orr and were enrolled for the first semester, AY 2013-2014 and 20 managers of companies where BM students conducted their OJT. Two sets of survey questionnaires were utilized to gather information from students and managers. Descriptive statistical tools were used to present the objectives of the study. Findings revealed that BM students who completed their OJT last summer were mostly female and 20 years of age. Financial management students comprised the largest portion of fourth year BM students who completed OJT. Most of the participants believed that the required length of OJT should only last for a month. Majority of the participants perceived that their OJT experience met their expectations. However, almost one-fourth of the participants perceived that their OJT experience were below their expectations. Participants generally perceive that their OJT was a "useful preparation for their future jobs in the business industry. It was also found out that the OJT Program was "adequate' in preparing the participants for their future career in the business industry. Generally, a "high" overall rating was recorded on the standard contribution of OJT in developing industry-relevant competencies of BM students. The highest contributions of OJT were in application and use of technology, information management and professionalism/work ethic as perceived by the participants. Students specializing in Operations Management were the most preferred by employers as trainees in their respective organizations while students specializing in Human Resource Management were the least preferred. Multitasking, initiative and interpersonal skills were the most developed management competencies of the participants during their OJT while political skill, entrepreneurial spirit and application and use of technology were the least developed competencies during OJT. Managers firmly believed that the OJT is relevant to the students' major and course and to the needs of the industry.
