Abstract: This study was conducted to determine the socio economic status of farmers in Trece Martirez City by lo)king into the production and marketing practices employed by farmers, the problems encountered in production and marketing and possible suggestions on how production and marketing could be improved to ameliorate the socio economic status of these farmers. Five barrios were selected as research areas for this study. 2, 40 percent sample of all possible respondents was taken using the simple random sampling. The total sample was 106. majority of the farmers were from 40 to 60 years of age. They were able to reach the primary level of education. Most of them were lessees. The average number of dependents was five persons per farmer. They operated an average of 2.2 hectares of land. Their average gross in-come was quite low around p4,688,77 only. The cost incurred in marketing the produce was V120.000 per jeep. Poor condition of feeder roads in the locality was the most frequent problem cited and because of this transportation cost was unusually high. The different factors such as educational attainment, tenure status, experience in farming and sic of farm accounted for the big difference in the gross in-come of farmers and it also means that these factors ac-counted for the farmer's ability to earn more. Farmers encountered many problems in producing and marketing their products, yet these were taken for grant-ed and no attempt had been done to lessen or partially solve the problems. In view of this, farmers should make representation through their local government officials who will in turn relate their problems to the proper agencies for solutions.
