BEAiO, ANDREA CRISEL S., CORDEZ, AIMEE LUZ V., RONIO, JOANN M.., Applied Research I, Cavite State University, College of Education, Science High School, Indang, Cavite. “PRODUCTION OF MOSQUITO — REPELLENT CANDLE FROM CITRONELLA”. ADVISER: Ms. Miriam C. Du
This research study was conducted to determine the possibility of using citronella in the production of mosquito — repellent candle, determine the best concentration of citronella oil that will give the highest number of mosquitoes that will repel with the candle, determine the percent rate of repelled mosquitoes exposed on the produced mosquito — repellent candle and determine the cost of production of the produced repellent.
The treatments used were: To - control; T; — 750 ml melted wax and 4.5 ml citronella oil; T2 - 750 ml melted wax and 9 ml citronella oil; and T3 - 750 ml melted wax
and 13.5 ml citronella oil.
The results revealed that T3 ;, the best in terms of the total number of repelled mosquitoes it is the one that contains the highest concentration of citronella oil.
In terms of odor, T3 is also the best based on the respondents choice. The same is true with the general acceptability.
But among the treatments used, none of them can be said as effective due to the factor that citronella’s effectiveness as a repellent lesser when added to make a candle unless you have higher concentration of it.
