Abstract: PREVOSA, CHARMAINE B. Effectiveness of Dynamic Teen Company’s Communication Strategies in English and Math Tutorial for Street Children of Cavite City. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. March 2010. Adviser: Ms. Roselle Rea G. Salinas. This study aimed to find out the effectiveness of communication strategies applied by the Dynamic Teen Company in terms of improvement in the performance of selected street children of Cavite City in English and Math tutorials. Descriptive research design was used to determine the effectiveness of the communication strategies applied by the Dynamic Teen Company. Street children who were tutored by the said group, specifically those in Cavite City-Dumpsite, were the respondents. They answered the pretest and posttest in English and Math. The respondents were in three classes: Grades 1-3, which they had 37 respondents; Grades 4- 6, with 7 respondents; and Teens which there were 10 respondents; the total respondents was 54. Moreover, to determine the communication strategies used, the researcher approached six educators of the said group who are all teaching the said classes. Pretest and posttest, constructed and validated by the Dumpsite educators, were given to the street children. The English pretest was given on January 16, 2010, then a set of posttest was given two weeks after. The posttest in English and the pretest in Math were given on the same day. On the other hand, the questionnaire regarding the communication strategies were given to the educators on February 13, 2010. Regression and Correlation analysis was used to present the effectiveness of the pretest and posttest. These statistical tools were used to determine if there is any significant difference on the pretest and posttest. Descriptive statistical tool was used to present the communication strategies. Based on the data gathered, majority of the educators use Filipino as medium, prepare lesson plans and use simple words during class discussions while three do not use complex words and three fairly use English as medium during discussions. As for the exams, all of the students had an increase in results on the posttest. However, despite the increase, the pretest in English had a little significance to its posttest while the pretest in Math had no significance to its posttest. On Grades 4-6, the probability is 0.0288, it is obviously less than 0.05, this means that the result of the pretest is significant to the result of posttest in Math. The pretest of the Teens Class on English has much significance on the result of the posttest while the result on Math is otherwise. However, all the students from Teens Class improved as other grades. The results of the pretest and posttest indicate that the communication strategies of the Dynamic Teen Company are effective in Grades 1-3 English, Grades 4-6 Math and Teens English. Meanwhile, in the Math subject of the Grades 1-3 and Teens, the communication strategies are not effective.
