Abstract: JAPSAY, AEZEL JOY 0. Predicating College of Arts and Sciences Students' Academic Performance Using the College Placement Examination Performance Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Psychology. Cavite State University; Indang, Cavite. April 2013. Thesis Adviser: Dr. Cecilia B. Banaag. This study was conducted to predict the academic performance of the graduates at the College of Arts and Sciences using their performance in the CvSU placement examination. Specifically, it aimed to: (1) determine the performance of the CAS students in the CvSU placement examination on the following areas: verbal ability, mathematical ability, and over-all performance; (2) determine the academic performance of the CAS students in the following areas: English, Mathematics and GPA; (3) determine the relationship between the following variables: CvSU placement examination performance and English performance, CvSU placement examination performance and Math performance, and CvSU placement examination performance and GPA; (4) identify the predictors of the academic performance in the following areas: English, Mathematics and over-all academic performance. The participants of the study were graduates of non-licensure courses of the College of Arts and Sciences, batch 2011 and 2012, who took the CvSU placement examination. The study involved all 123 graduates. Seventeen males and 106 females were included in the study. The study utilized the descriptive - correlation research method which determined the relationship between two or more variables. The statistical analyses employed were mean, frequency count, percentage, standard deviation, Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient (Pearson r), and Stepwise Multiple Regression Analysis. The findings show that the graduates of the College of Arts and Sciences performed satisfactorily in verbal ability, mathematical ability, and overall performance. Also, majority of the students performed satisfactorily in academics. They have at least the adequacy in communicating intelligently their discipline. However, they manifest some deficiency in understanding the principles and facts in mathematics. The relationship analysis indicated that graduates who performed satisfactorily in their placement examination are likely to perform highly in their academics. Those graduates with poor performance in the placement examination are likely to also have poor academic performance. The graduates' performance in Mathematical ability predicted their academic performance. However, it is their over-all performance in the placement examination which can predict their performance in English and Mathematics.
