JAIN April 2017 ABSTRACT JAIN, ARCHIEVAL M. Development of an Online Agricultural Trading System for the Province of Laguna. Capstone Project. Master in Information Technology. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. April 2017. Adviser: Prof. Charlotte B. Carandang. Adequate nutritional food is one of the basic needs of human. It enhances the physical health and human autonomy. According to Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), to improve nutrition, we need to improve agriculture. Philippines is a predominantly agricultural country, but improvement in the agriculture sector is rather slow. According to Philippine Statistics Office, fishermen and farmers are the poorest among the different sectors in the Philippines. Research shows that this can be attributed to lower prices of products, no regular buyers of commodities or seasonality of high demand, low agricultural productivity that resulted to aging in the agricultural field, wastage and post-harvest losses, and price dispersals in the market. Price dispersals was a result of distance and poor communications in the marketplace, unavailability of market information, and middlemen that are commanding the prices and gaining more profits. To resolve problems in price dispersals in the market, the proponent developed a system entitled: Online Laguna Agricultural Trading Center. The system is an e- commerce website that will serve as an alternative channel of marketing the farmers' products. It will also provide the farmer an easy and economical way of managing some of its business process. Through its SMS capability, the farmer can handle customer inquiries and update inventory of products and prices economically and with ease. The system was evaluated using the ISO 9126 by 10 ICT experts based on the following criteria: functionality, reliability, efficiency, maintainability, and portability. vii Acceptance testing was also conducted for by 153 farmers from the 3rd and 4th district of Laguna and 130 buyers based on its usability. Based on the evaluation of the system, the ICT experts agree that it follows the ISO 9126 standards on software quality. On the other hand, both farmers and buyers also agree on all the 10 criteria of system's usability. According to the farmers, "It is easy to find information I needed", while the buyer agreed that "The system is simple to use". Based these findings, the proponent concluded that the developed system can be used as a channel to improve the marketability of farm products of farmers of Laguna. viii TABLE OF CONTENTS Page BIOGRAPHICAL DATA ACKNOWLEDGEMENT ABSTRACT...... JAIN, ARCHIEVAL M.
It enhances the
physical health and human autonomy. According to Food and Agriculture Organization
(FAO), to improve nutrition, we need to improve agriculture. Philippines is a
predominantly agricultural country, but improvement in the agriculture sector is rather
slow. According to Philippine Statistics Office, fishermen and farmers are the poorest
among the different sectors in the Philippines. Research shows that this can be attributed
to lower prices of products, no regular buyers of commodities or seasonality of high
demand, low agricultural productivity that resulted to aging in the agricultural field,
wastage and post-harvest losses, and price dispersals in the market. Price dispersals was a
result of distance and poor communications in the marketplace, unavailability of market
information, and middlemen that are commanding the prices and gaining more profits.
To resolve problems in price dispersals in the market, the proponent developed a
system entitled: Online Laguna Agricultural Trading Center. The system is an e-
commerce website that will serve as an alternative channel of marketing the farmers'
products. It will also provide the farmer an easy and economical way of managing some
of its business process. Through its SMS capability, the farmer can handle customer
inquiries and update inventory of products and prices economically and with ease.
The system was evaluated using the ISO 9126 by 10 ICT experts based on the
following criteria: functionality, reliability, efficiency, maintainability, and portability.

Acceptance testing was also conducted for by 153 farmers from the 3rd and 4th district of

ICT experts agree that it follows the ISO 9126 standards on software quality. On the
other hand, both farmers and buyers also agree on all the 10 criteria of system's usability.
According to the farmers, "It is easy to find information I needed", while the buyer
agreed that "The system is simple to use". Based these findings, the proponent concluded
that the developed system can be used as a channel to improve the marketability of farm
products of farmers of Laguna.
