Bachelor of Science in Agriculture major in Crop Protection-Entomology. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. April, 2002. Adviser: Dr. Evelyn O. Singson. The presence of lectin in four different species of cockroach was determined and their hemagglutinating activity was characterized based on temperature and Calcium dependency, and human and animal blood specificity. The experiment was laid out in 4 x 7 x 2 x 2 factor factorial experiment arranged in Completely Randomized Design with three replications. The study was conducted at the Crop Protection Laboratory, Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite and Institute of Chemistry of the Philippines, Los Banos, College, Laguna from September 2001 to January 2002. The agglutination assay on human and animal blood was done using TBS and TBS+ Calcium under room (30C) and low (4C) temperatures. Among the four different species tested, Blatella germanica has the highest hemagglutinating activity followed by Blatta orientalis and Supella longipalpa. Periplaneta americana had the least hemagglutinating activity. Generally, the lectin from the four cockroach species in non-blood group specific, non-C-type and belong to non-cold agglutinin group.
