This study was conducted to determine the predictors of psychological well-being of senior college students at Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. This study used descriptive correlational research method to describe and to determine the relationship between and among family structure and socio-economic status and psychological well-being. The participants of this study were the senior college students at Cavite State University in Indang, Cavite. This study used stratified random sampling in determining the participants.
The research instruments used in the study were Data Personal Sheet and Ryff Psychological Well-being Rated Scale, a 54-item questionnaire which measures the participants psychological well-being.
The senior college students’ family structure revealed that majority of the marital status of parents of the students were married. Many of the students belonged to an average family size (five family members). The common birth order of the students was middle children while for socio-economic status of the students, it was found that they belonged to low income family. Education of father showed that most of them attained high school and many of the mothers of the students finished bachelor’s degree. As for their occupations, majority of the fathers were self-employed and most of the mothers were unemployed. It was also revealed that majority of the students had a high level of psychological well-being in terms of autonomy, environmental mastery, personal growth, positive relations with others, purpose in life, and self-acceptance.
The results showed that birth order was significantly related to personal growth and positive relations with others while family income was found to be correlated with autonomy and education of mothers had a significant difference with purpose in life.
The predictors of the psychological well-being of the students were birth order, family income and educational attainment of mothers.
