Abstract: PENAFLOR, ALEXIS M., SABROSO, RED JOSEPH M. Relationship between Academic and Athletic Focus of Cavite State University-Main Campus athletes. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Sports and Recreation Management. Cavite State University, Indang Cavite. April 2016 Adviser: Ms. Jazmin F. Piores. A study was conducted at Cavite State University in Indang Cavite, to determine the academic and athletic focus of CvSU athletes in Indang. Specifically, the study described the demographic profile of students athletes; determined the level of academic and athletic focus of student athletes in Cavite State University Main Campus, and ascertained the relationship between academic focus and athletic focus of CvSU athlete. The participants were 100 CvSU varsity athletes. A survey questionnaire was used to gather the needed data. Descriptive statistical tool were used to answer the problems posed in this study. Result showed that more than half of the participants were mostly ranging from 17 to 21 with frequency count of 15, 27, 20, 15 and 11 successively and revealed that in terms of gender the varsity in the university was almost an equal number which was 52 percent male and 48 female. Most of the athlete came from the second year level, there were great number of athletes involved in team sports which is 61 percent while individual sports there were only 39 percent. Most of the varsity of the university competes only for regional twenty-nine percent played in local competition while there were twenty-eight percent competed in National competition. The level of academic focus of the varsity was 3.20 as its mean and standard deviation of .44. While athletic focus of thc varsity was 3.26 and standard deviation of 47. This means that the varsity are sometimes focusing in academic and their performance as varsity. It means that those varsities focusing in academic may also focus their performance as an athlete. Likewise according to Stephen Baddeley, director of sport at the University of Bath, top sportspeople are extremely organized, disciplined and efficient with their time, which are useful skills in the academic side of their lives.
