AUSTERO, MARK FRANCZ G. and MONTECILLO, FLORMARIE V. Development of Engine Analyzer for Instructional Purposes. Undergraduate Design Project. Bachelor in Industrial Technology, major in Automotive Technology. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. May 2018. Adviser: Mr. Danielito R. Escaño.
An engine analyzer is a complex, multi-function instrument, sometimes called a scope that can help diagnose engine and engine-related problems or assist in tuning following an overhaul. An engine analyzer can be used with gasoline and diesel powered vehicles. Among the components and test capabilities, it may include pressures, vacuum gauges, oil pressure, oil temperature, water temperature, voltmeter, dwell angle, and timing. Most engine analyzer has both manual and automatic test modes. In the manual modes, any single test such as cylinder compression or generator output can be performed.
The developed engine analyzer for instructional purposes was focused mainly in analyzing the different kinds of gasoline engine in the shop. The mechanical and electronic gauge were provided to allow students to see the difference between electronic and mechanically operated gauges. The ampere gauge was an indicator that reads the engine's electrical generator producing electricity by measuring the current flow in the battery whether it is charging or not. The adaptor for oil sending unit of mechanical gauge and digital gauge, the T fitting with three treaded holes was specially fabricated to allow the measurement of oil pressure, while the temperature sensor measuring the temperature of an engine by mechanical and electronic gauge.
The engine analyzer prototype was tested in 4K carbureted gasoline engine and Nissan twin cam 16 valve engine. The operation of the design project was to simply analyze the measured oil pressure, ampere, and temperature of the engine, by using the mechanical and electrical gauge and other equipment in the design project. The authors tested the prototype using 4K carbureted gasoline engine and Nissan twin cam 16 valve engine by the use of I fitting, wires and sensor the mechanical gauge and electrical was able to analyze the status of 4K Carbureted gasoline engine.
The study was proven and tested by the evaluators, students and instructors, that it is easy to familiarize, efficient and useful for its functionality. The statement was based on the result of the evaluation which got an overall mean of 4.4 interpreted as outstanding. This means that the design project was really useful and had met all the objectives.
