Abstract: GACAYAN, BERNADETTE C., LOPEZ, FIONA ALEXIS D., MONTEVERDE, CELINE ESTHER T., NUEVAS, MONINA B. and PANGANIBAN, ANGELICA-JO T. L1 to L2 language transfer errors among Filipino Senior High School learners: A grammatical analysis. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Arts in English Language Studies. Cavite State University Don Severino De Las Alas Campus, Indang, Cavite. June 2022. Adviser: Mr. Edgielson D. Nueva. This study investigated the types of L1 to L2 transfer errors, particularly in grammar. Specifically, this study was designed to describe the demographic profile of the respondents, identify the types and frequency of grammatical errors found in writing composition when transferring L1 to L2, explain the causes of most language transfer errors in terms of grammar and determine the patterns of occurrence of language transfer errors from L1 to L2. The study employed a mixed-method research design; qualitative and quantitative. The data were obtained from the selected Senior High School students of Bucal National Integrated School Maragondon, Cavite and Jugaban National High School - Carigara Leyte through Google forms. The written composition analysis of the responses demonstrated that numerous Senior High School students made an error in Subject-Verb Agreement, Tense and Connectors, with 81% of the written composition has grammatical errors in the first grammar writing proficiency test while 78% of the student-respondents commit errors in the second grammar writing proficiency test. The researchers found that the most common causes of errors are misformation and omission. It also found-out that students make errors with the influence of the rules/style of their mother tongue in their sentence constructions. Furthermore, students exposed to various learning materials are less likely to commit errors in written composition.
