Abstract: JACINTO, ROMAN III P. Socio Demographic Profile, Self-concept and Level of Commitment of the Laity of Secular Franciscan Order, Confraternity in Lowland Cavite. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Psychology. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. October 2007. Adviser: Renato T. Agdalpen The study was conducted at lowland Cavite to determine the socio-demographic profile, self-concept and level of commitment of the laity of Secular Franciscan Order, Confraternity in Lowland Cavite. Specifically, the study aimed to: describe the socio-demographic profile of the respondents; identify the nature of ministerial service/s rendered by the respondents; determine the level of self-concept of the respondents; determine the level of commitment of the respondents, determine whether the level of self-concept is dependent on some socio-demographic variables of the respondents; determine whether the level of commitment is Dependent on some socio-demographic variables of the respondents; and ascertain if there is a significant relationship between the level of self-concept and level of commitment of the respondents. A total of 120 Secular Franciscan Order laities were involved in this study. Chi- square test was used to establish the relationship between level of self-concept and selected socio-demographic variables of Franciscan laities and between level of commitment and selected socio-demographic variables of Franciscan laities. The same test was used to establish the relationship between the level of self-concept and level of commitment of the respondents. Findings of the study revealed that Franciscan laities in lowland Cavite are generally female, married and underemployed. Most of them belong to older age groups which means that younger generations were not much attracted to join the fraternity. They are generally affiliated with the Praying Ministry and there are only a few new members of SFO. Franciscan laities in lowland Cavite have a “very high self-concept” and are generally “committed” to the fraternity. High significant relationship existed between age and self-concept of the Franciscan laities. Laities belonging to the younger age group have a lower level of self- concept than older age groups. Likewise, a high significant relationship was found between civil status and self-concept of the respondents. Married Franciscan laities have significantly higher self-concept than single, widow/widower, or separated Franciscan laities. Significant relationship was also manifested between occupation and self-concept of the respondents. Underemployed Franciscan laities had generally higher self-concept than employed laities which could be due to the fact that underemployed laities have more time to devote for their Franciscan vocation which showed them the way to their true character. Significant relationship is also prevalent between civil status and level of commitment of Franciscan laities to the fraternity. Single, widow/widower, and separated Franciscan laities have higher commitment to the Fraternity than their married counterpart. This implies that married lalities may have to divide their obligation and attention between their families and the Fraternity.

The study was conducted at lowland Cavite to determine the socio-demographic profile, self-concept and level of commitment of the laity of Secular Franciscan Order, Confraternity in Lowland Cavite.
