Abstract: CASTILLO, BABERLIE CATAPANG. Cost and Return of Tilapia Raising in Selected Towns of Batangas. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Agriculture major in Agricultural Economics. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. April 2003. Adviser: Prof Gilchor P. Cubillo. A study was conducted to detemine the socio-economic characteristics of tilapia growers in selected towns of Batangas, characteristics of tilapia fish farm, cost and return (net income) in tilapia raising, management, production and marketing practices in tilapia production and the problems encountered by the raisers. The study was conducted in three selected towns of Batangas such as Agoncillo, Laurel, and San Nicolas. A total of 50 respondents were included in the study. Data were analyzed using frequency counts, average and percentage. Results of the study showed that the average age of the respondents was 38 years. Majority of them only reach the high school level of education. Their average years engaged in raising tilapia was eight years. The average cost for three months operation (1 cycle) was ₱354,514.80, while the average operation cost per cage was P117,679.49. The net income/per cage of the tilapia raisers ranged from P 14,000 to P 150,999 with an average of ₱79,909.50. Majority of the respondents had a net income/per cage ranging from ₱51,000 to ₱100,999. The respondents had harvested a kilo of tilapia from 2500 to 80,999 kilos with an average of 16,029.50 kilos. The large number of respondents had harvested a kilos of tilapia ranged from 2500 to 20,999 kilos. The major problem encountered by the raisers/respondents was the occurrence of natural calamities and the high prices of feeds.
