Abstract: SEDA, BERNADETTE V. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. April 2005. Piglet Survival Rate as Affected by Flunixin Meglumine (Finadyne®) Administration in Newly Farrowed Sows. Adviser: Dr. Nelson J. Montialto, DVM. The study was conducted to determine the survival rate of piglets as affected by Flunixin meglumine (Finadye®) administration in newly farrowed sows. A total of ninety (90) newly farrowed sows from Farm A were used. Thirty (30) sows were distributed randomly between 6 treatment levels. No significant results were observed with regards to the pre-weaning mortality rate in first and third and above parity sows. Significant difference at 1% level was only observed in second parity sows. No significant results also were observed with regards to the MMA-associated mortality rate in first and second parity sows. However, significant difference at 5% level was realized in third and above parity sows. Results of the study revealed no significant difference in weaning weight, gain in weight, and litter size at weaning. This study showed that administration of Finadye® immediately post partum prevents incidence of MMA, reduces pre-weaning mortality, and improves piglet livability.
