Abstract: CABANTOG, MA. LEA RIOFLORIDO. ADD-ON CASSAVA TUBER MEAL AND LAYING PERFORMANCE OF JAPANESE QUAILS (Coturnix coturnix japonica). Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Agriculture major in Animal Science. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. April 2005. Adviser: Dr. Pedro Q. Olabe. A study was conducted to determine the effect of cassava tuber mixed with commercial ration on egg production of quail. One hundred twenty ready- to-lay quails were used. The birds were subjected to four treatments and replicated three times with ten birds per replication using Completely Randomized Design (CRD). Treatment I, which was given pure commercial ration served as control, Treatment Il with 10 percent cassava tuber meal + 90 percent commercial ration, Treatment 111-20 percent cassava tuber meal + 80 percent commercial ration, and Treatment IV-30 percent cassava tuber meal + 70 percent commercial ration. Significant differences (P<0.05) were observed in the weekly body weights of quails at six weeks fed with cassava tuber meal mixed with commercial ration. Nonsignificant differences (P<0.05) were observed in the feed conversion efficiency, egg production, and feed consumption. Cost and return analysis revealed very high input per egg produced (Php 3.51) in Treatment IV compared to control (Php 2.25). This is due to fewer eggs laid by quails in Treatment IV (595) compared to control (407).
